Jared Butler Regional Service Manager| Rinnai San Diego, United States

Hello everyone, and thank you Laura for the invitation to the community.

My name is Jared Butler. I've been working in the construction industry for about 25 years. I started in plumbing and mechanical, and eventually broadened my scope to overseeing general construction projects as a licensed contractor in San Diego, CA.

When I was growing up, my imagination never really stayed in one specific direction. Mainly, I always had ideas about being a writer or traveler, anything to satisfy my curiosity. Similarly, I really enjoy the planning process' tools and tech, specifically utilizing experts' knowledge, data gathering and analysis to develop how a project stands out from previous work. In my current role, it’s always interesting to learn about unique building materials and construction methods during the research to determine/develop the scope outline. I think that's what's kept me curious and engaged in project management, the opportunity to discover how things work by doing and managing the work. Also, I really appreciate big picture thinking, which is obviously a key factor for successful management. To come full circle, I really loved the original A-Team television series as a kid in the 80's. My favorite moment in every episode was when the leader of their band of misfits, John "Hannibal" Smith, would say, "I love it when a plan comes together!"

I’m a K-12 educator preparing to transition into the next chapter of my career. I've yet to determine where this pivot will lead me, but I’m certain that it will allow me to continue to bring a positive impact to my community.

I am fortunate to have experienced an accomplished career in education. I’ve taught for over 20 years in the elementary grades of kindergarten through fifth.

Now, I’m ready for my next challenge: preparing for CAPM certification and expanding into the world of project management! I'm eager to connect with others who are also preparing for certification, and I graciously welcome insight from former educators who have successfully made the transition into PM.

Emily Weeks
PMI Team Member
Awards Program Specialist| PMI Sc, United States
Hello, PMI community!

Your name and current role:
Emily Weeks, Award Program Specialist

What did you want to be when you were growing up?
I dreamed of performing on Broadway! After seeing Beauty and the Beast live on stage, I was completely hooked.

What are your favorite project management tools and technologies? Or ones you’d like to learn more about?
I’m really interested in how project managers are using AI in their day-to-day work. I’d love to learn more about the practical applications and emerging tools in that space.

What drew you to the project management profession?
Surprisingly—my mom! She encouraged me for years to pursue my PMP. When I started exploring resources, I discovered PMI… and I’ve now been here for almost three years!

What’s your proudest accomplishment (personal or professional)?
Adopting and training my Skye Terrier, Wally. The breed is known for being fiercely independent and stubborn, so getting him to respond to commands and walk calmly beside me—without a leash!—was a huge win.

Mariyappan Muthukumar Technical Manager : ICT, ELV system and Airport Systems| Optimetrix Integration and Solutions Private Limited Bangalore, Karnataka, India
I am Mariyappan, and I am thrilled to be a new member of this vibrant PMI community. Currently, I serve as Technical Project Manager, where I manage Projects for Airport ICT & ELV system across India.

As a child, I dreamt of becoming a Police Officer, but my path eventually led me to the exciting world of project management. It's fascinating how life can take us on unexpected journeys.

In my project management journey, I have found immense value in tools and technologies such as Network simulator and data management. The ever-evolving tech landscape in project management keeps me engaged and motivated.
