I believe PMI is embracing the role which AI will play in project management - just based on what we are seeing in terms of discussion within this community and the launch of the Generative AI Overview for PMs micro-credential. I'd expect this to only grow over time including inclusion within PMI's standards.

At this point, your best bet is to be curious, experiment and see where AI applications make your more effective.

I would suggest learning advanced Excel functions such as conditional formatting, XML, and also SQL.

To use AI effectively, it is wise to know how to ask the right questions. Learning simple methods to structure and query data will greatly improve your skill at using more advanced methods to query and analyze both structured, and unstructured data sources.

There is a thrust from big consulting firms and IT companies building AI centre of excellence, embracing AGI as buzz word.., it’s only a matter of time AI/ChatGPT will switch from being a tool in the hands of operator to taking its place.

AI has the capacity to improve the overall job performance and effectiveness of program and project managers. With tools such as chat gpt, Microsoft bing/O365, loop and Microsoft copilot. I have been able to use all of these offerings in my daily job. I have used chat gpt to create project plans, status reports and risk management plans. I use bing and O365 to ask work related questions. O365 was especially helpful in learning more about my colleagues and their roles within the company. It helped me summarize all my emails from one specific person and catch up on missed meetings. I use loop in lieu of One Note. I use copilot every day because it can easily reduce the hours worked.

We are using AI in portfolio/program/project management from long time ago. Most of the times people are not aware on that. I think the PMI´s free course about generative AI is a very good resource to answer your question.

Like any emerging technology delivery, AI projects need technical skills to build, manage and deliver solutions. AI is only an umbrella term and there are a lot of areas below it like ML, Data, Algorithms, and Ethics.

Upskill yourself as there will be a need for more PMs as AI investment is in Billions in the next 5 years.
