If the professional PM community is interested, I believe that significant public good could come from taking the perspective that child raising is a 20yr project. Complete with dependencies, risk management, critical path, pert and gantt charts, communication feedback loops, quality control, and earned value analysis.
Not to mention the value of the shared lessons learned, or shared project plans to prospective as well as experienced parents.
Involving the child, or children, could teach them project/program management from a junior age, as well as other highly valuable skills including negotiation, communication, and results analysis.
I can also envision a "kitchen PMO" where the family works as a team to raise the level of excellence and quality of experience for everyone involved across several child raising plans that are being executed in parallel.
Just a thought.
Cheers,

Hmmm, I see a lot of necessary risk management planning with this one. Not to mention that the Plan, Do, Check, and Act may not go as planned or similar to having the most volatile of team members on the project! Saving Changes...

Funny, I've been taking a project management approach to my own wedding planning, with GANTT chart, risk matrix, budget, vendor management plan, and regular stakeholder communications (over dinner with the fiance...) I have a feeling that doing this once we get pregnant could be either really fun, or really scary... :) Saving Changes...
LOL!
I'm thinking more program management with a series of distinct but sometimes overlapping projects.
e.g. Toilet Training project
Learning to Walk project
....
ending with
Move out of home project!
Some parents and offspring seem to have forgotton that last one!

Heh, I'd be curious to see what the cancellation process is when you realize you just won't make your ROI...

Hahaha... another shrewd and funny comment from Julien again. I would like to know that as well. Perhaps it will go into the project orphanage - the definitive home to many deserted projects. Saving Changes...
