A few thoughts:

1. If possible organize the work to avoid splitting work items across timezones. It is better if each location is able to complete a work item end-to-end.

2. While always important, effective kickoff meetings are even more important with international projects to ensure alignment towards the project's goals, a chance for everyone to meet one another, and the opportunity to establish some working agreements within the team.

3. While there might be some general differences at a national level, each team member is a unique individual so don't make assumptions based on a stereotype.

I am doing that from long time ago. Mostly remote from long time ago before other tools than phone exists to collaborate. I could put here a list but I think the key is to understand other cultures to understand how and why project stakeholders behaves, thinking and performing in different countries and to understand things like in some cultures to say "yes" it does not mean "I agree" for example.

Managing international projects involves navigating complex challenges that stem from differences in time zones, cultures, languages, legal systems, and business practices. Based on my extensive experience in this arena, here are five key topics that are critical to the successful management of international projects:

Cultural Sensitivity and Diversity Management: Develop cultural intelligence among your team members. Understanding and respecting cultural nuances can lead to better communication and a more vital team dynamic. Ensure that all team members are aware of and trained in cultural sensitivities. Foster an inclusive environment where diverse perspectives are valued and leveraged.

Communication Strategies: Establish clear communication protocols considering different time zones and languages. Use collaboration tools with real-time translation features and ensure documentation is accessible and understandable to all stakeholders. Synchronous and asynchronous communication should be balanced to keep all parties informed and engaged without causing burnout.

Legal and Regulatory Compliance: Be well-versed with the local laws, regulations, and business customs of the countries involved in the project. This includes understanding contracting laws, labor laws, data protection regulations, and any industry-specific regulations. I'd like you to please engage with legal experts where necessary to navigate these complexities.

Risk Management: Conduct a thorough risk assessment that considers the international context of the project. Risks can include political instability, currency fluctuations, and supply chain disruptions. Develop a robust risk mitigation plan and be prepared to adapt to changing circumstances swiftly.

Project Coordination and Control: Implement a centralized project management office (PMO) structure to oversee project activities across different countries and maintain a cohesive strategy. Use standardized project management methodologies and tools to ensure consistency and control throughout the project lifecycle.

These topics are by no means exhaustive, but they represent foundational pillars in the management of international projects. Mastering these areas can significantly increase the likelihood of project success in the complex tapestry of global business operations.
