Successful AI integration in organizations requires project managers to possess three key skills:

-Strategic Planning: Align AI initiatives with the organization's goals, ensuring clear objectives and a roadmap for integration.

-Effective Communication: Translate technical complexities into understandable terms for stakeholders, promoting collaboration and support.

-Risk Management: Identify and mitigate potential risks related to data security, ethics, and technology limitations, ensuring the project stays on track.

Hi Abolfazi, thank you. I like the effective communication one. I would add that as project managers we will also need to translate project management concerns into IT, technical language so that we can benefit from the more data-oriented part of AI. Does it make sense?

I think that effective communication also means managing stakeholder expectations: every day we all read about the extraordinary potential of AI (especially generative AI), which can lead those less knowledgeable about the topic to have different expectations. It is up to us to clarify them and guide stakeholders in the right direction.

I agree Luca, thank you for sharing. Communicating, and stakeholders' expectations go hand in hand and who better than project managers to align them, especially in this uncertain moment?

Yes, I have seen many project managers feeling uneasy, not because they don't know about Gen AI but because they perceive that the changes ahead will leave them out. Emotional intelligence will be key.

Here are 3 key project management skills that can facilitate successful AI integration in an organization:

1.Stakeholder management: When adopting new technology, like artificial intelligence, it is essential to manage different stakeholders and bring them together towards a shared objective. A PM must seek support from all parties involved, address concerns in an open and transparent manner, and clearly explain the advantages.
2. Change management: Using AI can seriously interrupt current procedures. A PM must proactively prepare the changes, provide teams with transitional assistance, and institutionalize new procedures. Adoption goes more smoothly when change management is strong.
3. Risk management: Using AI carries risks related to technology, business, and ethics. These hazards should be consistently identified, evaluated, and reduced by a PM. Organizational confidence in AI is increased by proactive risk management.

Good question indeed! AI has been around for a few decades now, but yes - it arrived on the big stage now - ready to showcase its capabilities.

As with any new technology/change, I'd say - (1) Change Management (2) Stakeholder Communication Management and (3) Risk Management are the three key areas we need to focus on - for introducting and integrating AI into our projects/work.

Obviously, one other key area we need to focus on is Upskilling of our project teams - so they are ready for the new technology and the opportunities/challenges it brings.

Upskilling, I like this one. PMs have the skills but they need to be broadened in an uncertain scenario.
