Working on improving synergies within a team working on a project within a politically polarized environment that is plagued with mistrust form stakeholders, how can AI help in enhancing teambuilding in this context?

AI can't solve interpersonal challenges but it might help in terms of suggesting a strategy to address a specific scenario or in helping to frame or position specific messaging for the team.

Do you have working agreements in place with the team? If not, holding a team building session focusing on developing those might be a good starting point.

I totally agree with Kiron. If you count on AI to enhance team building, I personally believe you will end up with more issues and solutions. You can leverage AI for insights that you personally apply to help build your team.

Hello Juliana,

I agree with the above posts. You can use generative AI tools for team-building suggestion purposes. Unless tomorrow, Robots are conducting team-building exercises, and even if that happens, it will lack human aspects, and that's crucial for team-building.

The company can use AI/NLP to capture employee/team sentiments through chat, email, and other modes of communication from the system and provide team-building suggestions. It is not at the individual PM level, though.

If you are using computer games to help in team blulding then you are using AI.

Juliana,

there are many AI tools that help with team building. Just ask ChatGPT.

Besides improving inputs to teams, also with gaming as Sergio points out, you can also use eAI (emotional AI) tools to gain insights via sensitivity analysis into the team workings and deduct actions to improve team cohesion.

You can use influencing triggers, to nudge people to expected behaviors, or use gamification techniques like instant feedback/rewards, scarcity, status points, and empowerment to stimulate our hormone system. This is done permanently in marketing, propaganda, government communication and social media, anyhow.

To build on the excellent suggestions from Thomas Walenta, I believe AI can indeed aid teambuilding in very specific ways. It obviously can't do the kind of rapport-building that comes from things like direct human contact, spontaneous humor, and empathy, but it can help to develop an environment that enables such interactions.

How? Well, perhaps the primary obstacles to such interactions are lack of time and awareness. As project leaders, we get caught up in fire drills or just day-to-day development of project materials. But we can use AI to help us spot when things are just starting to go poorly or indeed the opposite - someone has done much better than anticipated and needs recognition. It can also provide data that we never before could really access for projects, including sentiment analysis of team communications.

Once we know such things are happening, we need of course to use our human intuition to provide our team with what's needed at the time. But to use a school analogy, AI gives us a full-time "hall monitor" who not only helps to prevent wrongdoing but also hears what the students are saying and how they're looking - and can thereby be the ones who really know what's happening before teachers or administrators catch on.

Hi Juliana,

You may want to give virtual collaboration "events" that pulls up curiosity and bring about synergy in the team. Like planning poker for agile task estimation. AI would be beneficial if you would want a GenAI to suggest strategies and methodologies to further build the team.

Fascinating article, Michele. Thanks for providing!

I hadn't thought of how AI can help us improve our EQ, but those are some pretty simple and compelling use cases.
