Project Management Integrated with SDLC

Looking for suggestions. My boss would like to see one document with project management practices integrated as an "umbrella" over our SDLC. Since I see project management tools as the desired method to work through the SDLC, I am having difficulty. How do I make project management the backbone and the SDLC the "limbs"? Making the SDLC the backbone with project management "limbs" is clear, but I am stumped as to how to present it as he has requested. Help!!!

There are some good integrated PM/SDLC diagrams at www.addtis.com. ADDTIS put together an integrated Project Management/Software Development Life Cycle which integrates the PMBOK and SDLC processes into what they call the "ADDTIS Project Management/Software Development Life Cycle". The ADDTIS PM/SDLC uses SDLC Phases (e.g., Needs Analysis, Requirements Analysis, etc.) abstracted from today's popular SDLCs.

For years I followed Microsoft's Solution's Framwork methodologies as the foundation for the SDLC - it has 5 phases -
1. Envisioning
2. Planning
3. Developing
4. Stabilizing
5. Deploying

Now compare to PBBOK's Third Edition

1. Envisioning - Initiating
2. Planning - Planning
3. Developing - Executing
4. Stabilizing - Monitoring and Controlling
5. Deploying - Closing

Pretty darn close. The nice thing about MSF is that there are Eight Foundational Principles -
1. Foster open communication
2. Work toward a shared vision
3. Empower team members
4. Establish clear accountability and shared responsibility
5. Focus on delivering business value
6. Stay agile, expect change
7. Invest in quality
8. Learn from all experiences

This is really a perfect fit for PM's best practices.
