Hi everyone,
I'm trying to embark on a new career in project management and was reaching to ask if you have any advice for someone just starting out. I have about 15 years of work experience between my roles as a sales lead/representative at Best Buy, and 10 years working at Ford Motor Company as a warehouse associate. I completed Googles project management certification and have been seeking a mentor and internship role as a PM.

Hello Bryan - and welcome to PMI's Online Community! Congratulations on taking your first step in joining our community. In regard to your inquiry, I highly recommend the following:

1. Review the many posts contained within our Certification Discussion Group at https://www.projectmanagement.com/discussi...cation-central. Here you will find great suggestions from your fellow colleagues. You can reply to the comments in the various posts to gather additional information.

2. Reach out to your local chapter's website and request a mentor, as this is the best way to network with locals in your area and build relationships.

3. As part of your Digital Exclusive member benefits, I highly suggest viewing this publication https://www.pmi.org/learning/publications/...-where-to-start

I hope this helps and wish you luck in your journey!

Welcome to this profession, Bryan.

I am sure in your 25 years of work experience you have done several projects, even if they were not called such. Looking for a mentor and internship is a good start for anyone, just shifting to PM in a current expert or management role might be an option for an experienced person like you.

Yes, growing a network in PMI is a good way, via a local Chapter and global PMI as well as global Chapters, many of those offering free webinars (PMI Mumbai has a monthly Xchange meeting with 1500+ attendees globally).

The idea of looking for a mentor is always good.

Here is a writeup about my career, started 1974 my first project.

Bryan -

With a mentor and having completed a course you are on the right track. My only suggestion is to join your local PMI Chapter and network with the other PM practitioners there. And try to get as much breadth & depth of experience as possible!
