Both Sixth and Seventh editions of the Guide could be referenced when preparing for the exam as they complement one another and over time, there will be more questions added to the exam question "pool" referencing the Seventh edition.

However, be aware that the Guide is not the sole reference for the exam - if you visit the bottom of this web page you can see a more fulsome list: https://www.pmi.org/certifications/project...-reference-list

From my experience, E6 is more readable and acceptable, and more detailed. But E 7 is also helpful as a make up.

I suggest you read the ECO, concentrate on the 6th edition including the Agile guide and read through the 7th edition but you need extra resource too: I recommend Rita Mulcahy's Exam prep book. Good Luck!

It is important ot understand that the PMp Exam is NOT based on the PMBoK Guide (regardless the edition); the PMP Exam is based on the PMp Exam COntent Outline.

The Guide is one of several possible sources to study and understand the fundamental knowledge and to cover the ECO.
Well, it might be the most important source but it should be definately not the only one.

The minimum sources you should reference are:

PMBoK Guide 7th Edition
PMI PM Processes Practice Guide (which replaces the PMBoK Guide 6th Edition).
Agile Practice Guide
official SCRUm Guide (since most of the agile related questions are referencing Scrum)
and a good prep book

BR,

Markus
