To really benefit from AI in projects and portfolios you need to have a project portfolio management tool to start with. There are many tools out there as you know.
Then you need to ensure that all the projects and programs use it and that the data included is correct, or as correct and complete as possible. (To avoid garbage in garbage out).
This is of course not new, and unfortunately I think it will be a main problem for many, for many years to come.
But without real data from the portfolio components (projects, programs and ongoing operations) it will be difficult to fully take advantage of AI in the projects, the programs and the portfolios. I think that this is still a pending task, for many PMOs out there, since I believe it is the PMOs task to work on this.
I am trying to implement this now in our small NGO where we manage projects related to education in Sub-Saharan Africa. We have a PPM tool which also has AI built in. Now we are starting to use it, and thus trying to ensure that the project ands programs use and report into it, so we get the real data in there, and then can fully benefit from the tool's AI functionality. Hi Claudia,
Our Company Moyo Business Advisory (www.moyo.co) are experts and partners with Microsoft and Tableau, and use their data analytics tools PowerBI and Tableau extensively. As PM, I took a course in PowerBI so that I could develop insights into defect management. The visualisation layer exposed project and product data, showing trends and provided interactive widgets and slicers, so that people can resource themselves.
It helped the project team identify root causes, solve problems and track defects to closure. I highly recommend that Project & Quality Managers should acquire data presentation skills to support the way they communicate and make information readily available to stakeholders. Saving Changes...

I've been experimenting with Perplexity in my AI data, but I can't fully recommend it yet since my experiments are incomplete. However, so far, I like it.
As for charting and visualization tools, if you're building a webpage (internally or externally), I recommend using eCharts and DataWrapper. They're both free and easily accessible at the following links:
If you prefer connecting your data to a data analytics solution, the best advanced-solution is Google Data Studio (Looker Studio). It's free to use and there are plenty of resources available to help you learn how to use it seamlessly.
Thanks for sharing your experience - great help. Saving Changes...
Presenting data is going to be one of the skills of project managers. Since we are going to gather such an amount of AI-generated data we need more than ever to understand the audience, choose the right chart type, and be time concerned.
https://www.datawrapper.de/charts is easy to understand and the good thing is that it even lets you explore the tool with some preuploaded data. Concepts like purchasing data, cleaning, and presenting it seem to be part of our everyday decisions as project managers. A good starting tool.
Looker Studio gives us the chance to connect to our Google Analytics accounts which could be convenient especially if we have already started gathering traffic data, and usage data... with G. Annalytics. If we don't mind sharing our data this could be a nice way to integrate it with a powerful tool. Everything is in the same Google environment.
Have you seen Google’s AI note-taking app NotebookLM? Although only available to U.S. users, it seems quite promising for project managers, it is presented as "the expert in the information you need for your projects, capable of answering questions based on the supplied sources,” according to Google Labs Editorial Director Stephen Johnson put it.
Thanks for your insights. Saving Changes...
