Do I have to pay every time I attempt to pass the PMP certification or does the exam fee cover three attempts?

Theresa, the fee you pay covers one attempt only. If you had to take another attempt, you will have to do another payment as far as I know.

Theresa -

Rami is correct - each re-take of the exam requires payment but the 2nd and 3rd attempts will be cheaper than the original application cost. PMI no longer posts the cost information for re-takes on their website so I'd assume it is available in the myPMI dashboard if someone ends up failing their first attempt. I did a quick Google search and a few (non PMI) sites quite $275 US for US-based PMI members, but I would take that cost with a grain of salt unless PMI themselves publishes that cost!

Hello Theresa,

Your post suggests that you are not yet familiar with the PMP Credential Handbook because in addition to the answer to your question, you will find many other important and valuable information there. (no offense!).

Here is the link to the handbook for you:

As Rami and Kiron mentioned, you only pay for one attempt.

Hi Theressa,
I recommend that you only sign on for the exam if you study at least 3-6 months beforehand and have more than 3-5 years of hands-on experience. I have the CAPM after studying for it for a few months, and earlier, I took a Google project management course for six months while working full-time.

Everyone above is correct; you only have one chance and should make it count.

Good luck,
Sergiu

I'm sorry but Markus reply it is the typical reply that doesn't help. Instead of answering the question it leads to you to the handbook that is not good at all. If you know the answer, just answer it:

For the future visitors:

Retakes cost $275 for PMI members and $375 for nonmembers

I just finished a course and planning to take an exam this December 2025. I hope to clear it in my first attempt.

I am a PMI Member already and bought the Voucher from my trainer (Eduhubspot). I am way behind my homework but nonetheless I availed their fast track program to help me prepare with my target date of examination.

I will give an update regarding the result of my exam.
