Hi there, I need to understand if I qualify for PgMP Program Management experience requirements. My job position is Project Manager (Senior Project Manager) but my scope of work always included not one project but a whole direction with several projects all of which was being managed by me ( like AI user preference-based recommendation direction with 3 projects in it, or photo-based recommendation direction with 2 projects in it, etc.). I want to understand if this will be counted as a Program Management experience. Thank you!

Gagik -

While your company might not have given you the title of PgM, so long as the initiative was an integrated set of projects where managing it as a coordinated whole made more sense than as individual independent projects, then that experience should be applicable. There would also need to be other PMs managing the components within your program otherwise if you were managing all of those as well as the overall program then it might be a tougher sell.

The name of your job is not relevant, but what you do and did. Look at the PgMP Exam Content Outline (ECO) and tick off the tasks, find examples of when you did them.
Use the ECO language to describe your experience.

I totally agree with my fellow colleagues and this was the case for me for one program I used to manage where I didn't have a title of program manager but I carried on the duties and responsibilities for one. As long as you used to manage a program (a group of interdependent projects, and subprograms), then your experience should count but you can't claim it as well as Project Management experience because I believe you need certain years of experience in program management and on top of that certain number of years of experience in project management to qualify to apply.

Dear Gagik,

I am/was practically in the same situation. As my colleagues have already expressed, you don't necessarily need to hold the title 'Program Manager' to submit a valid application. What is crucial is that you properly reflect your experience in the application process. The application is almost the hardest part of the PgMP certification, besides the actual exam, of course. ;) I have just completed my application and received the following statement as feedback from a very well-known and respected PgMP trainer:

'One of the best PgMP applications in terms of content and structure that I have seen so far...'

And this trainer has already guided several dozen aspirants to PgMP.

The key is preparation. If you have extensive documentation on the projects, it's no problem to 'build' a program from it (provided there is an overarching, common benefit)."

Feel free to contact me if you need support in creating your application.

BR,

Markus
