Is anyone willing to share any charters that are being used to define their PMO, Governing Bodies, Change Control...

Our company is developing a formal PMO and would like to see some examples of setups that have proven valuable.

I'm not looking for a template. I would like to see some that were accepted by leadership and put into effect.

Hello Kelly,

I believe I may be able to help you. It is very important to start off right. Focus on providing PMO services and functions that serve the needs of your organization. Structure the PMO as a servant leader department that adds value by helping the organization meet its strategic objectives.

If you are willing to provide me with contact info, I can send you a charter (not a template) for a functioning PMO.

I hope all goes well with your implementation!

Harlan

Hi Harlan,

I recently moved from a company where I was a Program Manager to another where I head the Program Management Office. As part of setting up the PMO, my Director has asked that we develop a PMO charter.

I will appreciate if you can send me the charter in question. My email is [email protected]

Thanks.

Hi Harian,

I'm starting a PMO in a mid-size company and my goal is to do it the right way. I would appreciate seeing the sample charter. My hope is that more of a 2023 charter than perhaps something from many years ago.

Thank you

Hi Kelly,

Here's a link to charter we used for our PMO. It was featured on a monthly newsletter awhile back and has our company info stripped out. http://www.managementpro.com/styles/pdfs/L...e%20_Aug24.pdf.

This document was very helpful for talking with Executives, resource managers, and potential team members. The schedule shown was entirely too ambitious, but the sponsors of our PMO were still very pleased with the implementation and the results we've seen in the past two years.

I attribute the success of our PMO implementation to 3 main factors:
1) C-level support
2) A cross-functional team that was clear on desired results
3) Training for PMs and Sponsors

Hope this helps!

Kelly,

I have just posted a blog article on tips for running PMO which you can access it from
http://www.gantthead.com/blog/PMO-Bytes/5712/

My point is, the charter you are looking for might be quite different depending on the type of PMO you are planning to setup.

Also, Mark Perry is coming up with a new book "Business Driven PMO Success Stories" in Q4 2012 which should have a lot of case studies for your reference.

I am quite sure it will be a good reference for those who are working in or plan to work in a PMO.

I also recommend Mark's book. I was one of the many contributors and I believe you will find some wonderful help there.

I also recommend his first book if you don't already have it:

Business Driven PMO Setup
Practical Insights, Techniques and Case Examples for Ensuring Success

You can find his books here:

http://www.botinternational.com/books.htm

There are lots of very smart people here that I am sure will be happy to answer your questions.

Good luck with all.
