I have read about the eight components that are necessary in establishing project governance structure. I am curious if there are also more components on the project governance structure, if applied, will help in delivering successful project in various sectors.

I believe you are speaking to the components describe in this whitepaper: https://www.pmi.org/learning/library/proje...al-success-9945

Those are very high level and apply to any type of project. One could also argue for different categories, some being components of others. They do vary greatly in some cases such as industries that have regulatory oversight vs. fully autonomous governance.

Other components which could to mind are:

- Integration with other governance systems (e.g. people, process, tools) in the organization
- Regular assessment & continuous improvement of the project governance systems

Dear Kevin,

You know, when I think about project governance, it's a topic I've grown really passionate about through my experience. There are these fundamental elements we all talk about – setting up the right framework, making sure everyone knows their roles, and having clear processes for decision-making. But honestly, what I've found to be a game changer is how you adapt these elements to fit the unique needs of different industries.

Take the projects I've managed in construction, for instance. The focus there was so much on safety and sticking to regulations, which makes sense given the nature of the work. But when I shifted to IT and software projects, the whole scene changed. It was all about being agile and integrating the latest tech, which was quite a different ballgame.

And then there are those additional aspects I always try to keep in mind. Like, how important it is to be flexible with changes – I've seen projects take a complete 180! Communication, too, is something I can't stress enough. Whether it's with the team or stakeholders, keeping everyone in the loop has saved me from many headaches.

But you know what's really been a learning curve for me? Balancing the books and making sure we're sticking to regulations, especially in areas like finance and healthcare. It's a whole different level of pressure. And, of course, there's no overlooking the importance of sustainability nowadays. It's not just a buzzword; it's about making real, responsible decisions.

So, in a nutshell, while those core governance principles lay the groundwork, I've found that there's no one-size-fits-all approach. Each industry has its quirks, and as a project manager, adapting to these while keeping your team and project on track, that's where the real challenge lies. It's been a journey of continuous learning and adapting, and honestly, that's what keeps this job exciting for me.

BR,

Markus
