How does a distributed workforce impact communication and project coordination, and what solutions are available?
What tools and technologies are essential for managing projects with team members located in different geographical locations? Saving Changes...
The good news is that thanks to the pandemic, there is much more field tested advice available in this space across all industries than there was before.
Distributed or dispersed teaming doesn't change the skills required to be effective but it does increase the emphasis on certain power skills. For example, getting better at specific types of communication is more critical.
It is certainly helpful if there can be face to face events over the life of a project - especially the kickoff.
Team working agreements and explicit opportunities for team building will also help.
Finally, getting the right combination of collaborative tools which everyone is able to use, training the team members in their appropriate usage, and doing regular retrospectives on the virtual processes and tools will help improve things over time.
