We're excited to announce the release of a new feature "@mention" to help you connect and collaborate more effectively in our discussion forums.
To get started: - Type "@" and then continue typing the community member's full name, example: Dan Orth - The person tagged will receive a notification that they've been mentioned in the discussion post.
The feature is currently available in our discussion forums, (including replies), as well as comments on Articles and On-Demand Webinars*
*Edited 4/10/24 to add: "@mention" is now available for comments on Articles and On-Demand Webinars

Can it be turned off? In cases where I start getting too many notifications from websites such as notifying me multiple times about the same thing, I eventually create a rule in Outlook to automatically move them to a separate folder which I check rarely.

Keith Novak - Hey! So appreciate you raising the need for notification setting controls for the new @mention feature.
Right now the best way to minimize the # of alerts is to un-check the blue checkbox with "Notify me via email when someone posts a reply" at the bottom of the discussion thread. Note: This change does not disable @mention alerts.
In the meantime, I've also submitted your improvement idea to our product team as we iterate on the feature so community members in the future will potentially be able to update their notification settings for @mention under My Account -> Subscriptions and Notifications.
Keep the improvement ideas coming, thank you for sharing this one!

Now we're talking - Love this new "Mention" addition Laura Coscarelli!
We need to have the ability to edit comments on articles and blogs. If we post a comment there, unlike discussion threads, we can edit it at all.

We're actively discussing the best way to present and prioritize suggestions for @mentions for the next round of improvements, so that's great to hear that a shorter list would help you get the most out of the feature and make it easier/faster to take advantage of it.
