I am looking for feedback on Project Management training and education. Vendors, programs, certifications, etc that have and haven't work for other organizations.

I have been very impressed with the seminars provided by Construx, Steve McConnell's group in Seattle. http://www.construx.com/

In a previous job, we used both ESI and ILL as training companies. They
taught very credibile courses in project management basics and in specific
topic areas of project management (e.g. risk managment). They were also
willing to tailor their class to processes we had in place.

While they were able to convey the concepts of the topic being taught, they
were not able to do, and I don't know if there is a company that can, is to
connect the concepts of project management back to what a project manager
does when he/she gets back to the office. Someone (manager, PMO, other
project managers) must still help them understand how to use these new
tools. Having tools is not the same as knowing how to use tools. If you have
seen the tv show, "Tool Time", Tim and Al had the same tools, but
drastically different outcomes. Al knew what to do with the tools, Tim did
not. I can buy the same tools that a master carpenter uses and I guarantee I
will still not be able to produce work that looks the same. This is why
management sometimes feels like training dollars are wasted. They don't make
a visible difference.

If you would like to do your own research on PMP Review courses, here is a website to check out: pmp.wcu.edu

They have a comprehensive program. If you want to learn project management, not just how to pass a test, it's worth the look, and the time.

Regarding the recent post by anonymouse, keep in mind that "PM Education and Training" and "PMP Review Courses" are not synonymous.

An obvious opportunity for me! I work for one of the firms that provide PM education. Training and education are different. Training is how to make something work, or tie you shoes, education is about why it needs to be done, and here is one way to do it that has been successful for me. We are based in England, so have a look at our WEB site - www.citi.co.uk
