Politics is everywhere no doubt but compromising the effects to the detriment of organizational productivities lie the issues.
There are different forms of organizational politics:
- Tribal or ethnic
- Favouritism or nepotism
- Religiosity
- Professional biasness
- Class, influence and status
- Money politics
- Academic qualifications etc

They are all found in an organization just as they are found in a state's politics. However, these are factors that create barriers and limit productivities within an organization's vision and mission. For an organization to meet a set goals, overcome low productivity, break and create new records these elements must be eliminated from the system to create room for productivity in the organization.

Organization can't be optimal with these ambient of compromise and the best hands can't maximize or utilize their resources within these factors operational within the system. These undermine capable and competent hands within the system and therefore limit ideas, ability, resources and production outcome of the organization.

However, dealing with these shortcomings, is to remain firm and resolute in one's decision, mindset and focus in goals accomplishment irrespective of these blocks or elements on the way within the system. The interesting part of this is not subjected or peculiar to the leaders, bosses or subordinates but all are involved in the game. At times one might be draw to the drama without knowing even at director level via emotional and psychological forms but a fixed mindset with organizational culture and values understanding is made available for the employers and employees.

When these factors that erode the organizational culture and values emerged we must learn how to deal with them without being biased nor compromising on our decisions that eliminate such acts within the system. Our attitudes must remain unwavering on these forces that traumatized organizational productivity. A firm mindset must be put on to resist every act that dissuade organizational culture and values. The vision and mission of the organization must be clear before the public to eliminate such actions that undermine culture and values of the organization. Organizational decisions must be constantly examine and values reiterated consistency. Goals must be subject to capability and competency etc.

Finally, if we choose not to fall in these traps, organizational culture and values will remain standard and productivity remains optimal goals for everybody.

Thank you.

Esosa,

Your list of concerns, in my opinion, primarily lies in the realm of discrimination, some of which may, in some countries, be considered unlawful.

But in general, and independent of your list, here’s my perspective on corporate politics.

It exists to achieve change within an organization. It is stated as a positive when the change benefits the organization and as a negative when it’s implemented for the benefit of an individual without regard to the organization. The point to recognize is that corporate politics and project management have a shared genesis; that is, they are both in the business of change.

Hence, a project manager is themselves a “political device” purposed to further the objectives of executive management (i.e., the organization), as we are in the business of “change.”

If that’s true, we should (outside of discriminatory practices) embrace corporate politics and, when necessary (and ethical), navigate and use it to our advantage to meet our objectives.

Again, your list deserves a different response, so take my comments as one man’s opinion on corporate politics in project management.
