Back in 2022, the Danish PMI Chapter, which I am a part of, arranged a conference focusing on being more agile in the construction industry. We experienced the use of lean last planner, agile concepts applied during front-end planning and such – Has that changed? Are you experiencing more agility now and, in the later phases, e.g., during construction? Saving Changes...

Klaus, the degree to which you can apply pure agility in construction is somehow limited so I personally haven't seen lots of change lately compared to a year or two ago. You can implement an agile approach during the design phase, then move to a hybrid approach during execution and use Lean Construction for some activities like JIT Procurement. Saving Changes...

Agile practices in construction thrive when planning activities are measurable, goals are established and communicated clearly, and timely feedback is prioritized. Teams consistently embracing agile methods have witnessed notable growth in the construction industry. While the adoption of new methodologies like agile practices in the built environment initially encounters skepticism, ongoing implementation has led to a heightened understanding and utilization of agile benefits throughout project phases, including:
The increased use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and collaborative design tools, facilitating real-time design modifications and improved communication among project stakeholders.
Integration of digital project management tools and cloud-based platforms, enabling real-time collaboration among teams, regardless of their physical locations.
Growing use of agile project management tools and methodologies, such as Scrum, Kanban, tact planning, in construction projects to enhance responsiveness to changes.
The rising use of virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) technologies, providing clients with immersive experiences to visualize and interact with project elements before construction.
Adoption of technology devices on construction sites, delivering real-time data on equipment performance, safety, and project progress.
The accelerated adoption of digital technologies and collaborative tools is a response to the global shift towards remote work, emphasizing the necessity for more flexible project management approaches. Saving Changes...

Agile has always been a part of the construction industry, but till the stage when you get of the drawing boards. Once the teams hit the ground, the agility starts reducing and rigidity sets in. Unlike in software industry, both the construction and manufacturing industry have some inherent limitations in the extent to which "agility" can be exploited. Lead time for procurement and construction/manufacturing restrict agility only till the design stage.
Innovation in construction methodology could increase the duration of agile planning, but then it will come with its own set of unique challenges. Even with 3 D printing of building,, of which there have been a few success stories here in India agility is still a limited option. Saving Changes...
