I strongly believe that it would be highly beneficial for the Project Management Institute (PMI) to consider the development of a comprehensive Six Sigma curriculum. This endeavor has the potential to streamline the certification process and enhance the quality of education in the field, ultimately leading to a more efficient and trusted certification system.

The current landscape of Six Sigma certification is fragmented, with multiple organizations offering their own programs and certifications. This fragmentation can create confusion for individuals seeking Six Sigma education and certification. By consolidating these offerings into a well-structured curriculum under the PMI umbrella, we can provide a clear and standardized pathway for individuals looking to enhance their Six Sigma skills and earn reputable certifications.

PMI has built a strong reputation over the years for its commitment to excellence in project management and related disciplines. Leveraging PMI's brand and expertise in curriculum development and certification processes would undoubtedly instill instant credibility into the Six Sigma certification system. The PMI name carries weight and trust in the professional community, and its involvement in the Six Sigma realm would likely attract a broader audience of professionals seeking to improve their skills and career prospects.

Furthermore, PMI's global reach and network of chapters and affiliates around the world could significantly contribute to the dissemination of this standardized Six Sigma curriculum. PMI's existing infrastructure could be leveraged to offer training and certification opportunities to professionals in various regions, ensuring accessibility and consistency in education and assessment.

The establishment of a PMI-endorsed Six Sigma curriculum would not only simplify the certification process but also elevate the quality and credibility of Six Sigma education. This initiative aligns with PMI's mission of advancing the profession and supporting the growth of professionals in related fields. By bringing its expertise and reputation to the Six Sigma realm, PMI can play a pivotal role in fostering excellence and consistency in Six Sigma education and certification worldwide.

My two cents:

The real value of LSS knowledge or a credential only comes when the company you are part of has a commitment to quality & operational excellence. As such, I've found company-established LSS programs to be superior to externally offered ones, with the sole exception being the ASQ's offerings.

Also, by getting trained in a cohort of colleagues and then using an actual work project as the basis for your GB or BB, it is more beneficial to you & your company.

Finally, LSS applies to any type of work, not just project work. PMI's focus is on elevating project delivery excellence so this would not cleanly align with its North Star.
