AI has become an umbrella term for applications that perform complex tasks that in the past required human input, such as communicating with customers online or playing a game of chess. The term is often used interchangeably with its subfields, which include machine learning (ML) and deep learning.

br data-cke-eol="1"What if artificial intelligence is autonomous and leverages deep learning technology that turns against humans?

Can this happen one day? Maybe, everything is possible but I've only seen this in movies so far where AI robots turn on humans but as I said, AI is still in it's infancy so a lot remain to be seen!

Ahmed -

While there are definitely future dystopian risks of artificial general intelligence, we need to focus right now on the immediate & near term risks of bias, IP loss and other challenges created by GenAI.

The more pressing issue in my opinion is how optimization algorithms can enable people to do bad things using AI. Optimization is relative. You can tell an algorithm to find the best possible outcome or the worst by changing one single character in the code.

Ahmed,

Although not precisely an AI-based project management question, I will take it as such to excuse my answer below:

- My Supposition: The pretense of autonomy and epistemic subterfuge (i.e., using fabricated knowledge and partial truths to achieve nefarious means) are the near-term threats of so-called AI.

- My Reasoning: AI is an enigmatic and fascination-based term to society as a whole and, as such, is a moldable substance, making it an almost perfect delivery vehicle for mayhem.

Stated differently: We have nothing to fear when we view so-called AI-based technologies in the context of tools developed through hard-won software engineering. However, when we cross into the enigmatic spectrum of AI, fascination seemingly rescinds the need for transparency, creating the platform for mayhem.

However, opinions such as mine appear to be in the extreme minority.
