Data quality and quantity is particularly important as we think about leveraging AI on projects. Considerations include the diversity and comprehensiveness of the data that is available to us.
Have you ever encountered unexpected challenges or pitfalls while using data in your projects? How did you navigate the situation and find a resolution? Saving Changes...
I received design drawing with the contract and there was a clause about the taking approval before using the data or spreading it outside. I had to set with the client and agree what is really considered sensitive data and should not be released to any external party so I prepared a package for procurement excluding the sensitive data. Cleansing of data has to always be a project consideration. Current systems as well as past systems always have data in improper fields and/or the data is incomplete. Incorporating data cleansing at the beginning of projects significantly reduces problems and issues later in the project because initial evaluations of the data enable the proper efforts to be taken before the critical steps in which the data is needed.
The quantity of data should also be part of the initial evaluation of the data. If there is not enough data to cover the necessary scenarios then determination needs to be made as to how to get the volume of data necessary. Increasing the available data could be a result of accessing additional data sets, developing the additional data either through automation or manual means (depending upon the amount needed), or doing something else to address the scenarios needing the other data. Note that any of these methods to increase the quantity of data will need to incorporate data evaluation and cleansing as well. Saving Changes...

In my previous project, the objective was to reduce obsolescence for database technologies across the globe aka many regions. The timeframe for communication with immense amount of data took two weeks cycle for response and plan of action. However the data kept growing as many assets were not listed in a particular region as API failed to retrieve information at the right time. Hence I took that region as a subset project with dedicated resources and fast tracked to bring the region at par with other regions. It was immensely challenging but at the end it was rewarding in terms of achievement and stakeholders appreciation.
Wow! It sounds like one of my last challenges, even though within a smaller project (all the teams were in the same timezone).
I think you took the best approach, you nailed it.

From my experience, the main data access must be only for specific authorized users, but sometimes there is a need for applications users to have "read" access in order to have consistent authoritative content to ensure data integrity and quality of the data. What you don't want is to have multiple inconsistent instances of related data which furthers the disconnected integrity of data, leading to content inaccuracies. This normally occurs with multiple silo databases. Saving Changes...

Here's an actual circumstance. We wanted to get data from a production system to put into the enterprise data warehouse so that we could produce some Power BI reports.
One of our technical people had an access point for other data and used it for this data. It was not the same data.
The report was great, but when a project manager found out since the system was still in project mode even though it was in production, he was not happy. The reason for that is he was working with the vendor to find out why there was a response time problem.
Was it caused by the data access? We don't know. But it could have been. So there's a data problem to consider.
We have since set up a process for getting permission to access production systems whether or not there's an existing access point authorized. Saving Changes...
Hey Claudia,
Yes, I have. We had a PC deployment project that included onsite imaging of new PCs and then DOD wiping the data from the old PCs that were replaced. The initial wiping data from a pilot project had an average time of less than 20 minutes. The deployment kicked off and the times suddenly jumped to more than 2 hours. The pilot project only used laptops with SSDs versus the full deployment started with desktops and their older platter hard drives. We cherry picked out laptops to keep the project going and get back on track. I notified the client's PM team of the situation and requested 3 KVM (keyboard\video\mouse) switches along with 3 keyboards, 3 mice, and 3 monitors. Each switch could handle 8 desktops stacked in columns of four to save space. The three techs onsite would help stage the equipment, for imaging and wiping, nearby the three stations we set up. This allowed one tech to wipe 48 devices released from data quarantine and also image 48 es in one 8 hour shift. They then set up 24 devices at the end of the day to image overnight and be ready for deployment the next morning when they arrived. The confusion could have been avoided if a better representative set of PCs had been chosen for the initial pilot project by the previous PM. We had more than twice as many desktops than laptops on the project but the previous PM let the client select the items for the pilot project. A perfect example of having a total sense of the project and how all the parts work together. If we had not caught the difference when we did, SPI can save your behind, the project would have fallen apart when five more techs were added to the deployment schedule but the wiping took 6 times longer on average than expected. When I took over, one of the first things I did was calculate the CPI and SPI and both were off. We were able to correct both by changing the process and allowing multiple processes to run at the same time as opposed to waiting until they completed before staring. Also, starting the imaging process on devices and allowing them to run overnight, most of them completed it, provided a cushion for the techs when they started the next morning and reduced the stress on them to get prepped..

Hi,
for sure, the help of AI in Project Management can be terrific, But I see a lot of risk to accept solutions that are not ethical or difficult to check in reliability, so I would use this tool partially and under control of an expert PM who can intercept discrepancies and way to implement the AI suggestion better and with more quality.
