We plan to elevate our reporting to higher levels. I would like to ask my fellow Project, Portfolio and Program Managers what would be their top 5 picks when it comes to reporting tools. The aim is to use consolidated reporting from different inputs (project plan, jira tickets etc.) allow for different layers of details in the reporting (eg. HL dashboards for top mgmt,  bespoke reports for various teams etc). Letting the tool populate all sorts of templates, with the input information to keep it simple is a sought-after feature. Please share your thoughts.

If your data is in a single vendor's stack (e.g. Atlassian), I'd use their reporting capabilities. Otherwise, it might be better to extract or pull the data into an RDBMS and use Tableau or a similar reporting solution to produce bespoke reports and dashboards.

The challenge I have found is rarely with the reporting infrastructure but rather with the quality, accuracy and completeness of the underlying data so hopefully you have a good data quality capability to reduce the risk of "garbage in, garbage out"!
