Ferin, Project Management and artificial intelligence (AI) are transforming the aviation and defense space in many ways such as enhancing efficiency, safety, and decision-making. For example, in aviation, AI contributes to improved flight planning, predictive maintenance, and enhanced air traffic management.

Additionally, AI is crucial in defense for tasks like autonomous vehicles, threat detection, and cybersecurity.

I would say that PM is not changing aviation, defense, and space so much as the reverse. Most of what we consider classic PM came out of the US Department of Defense in the 1960s, but with the increase of digitization, there is more agile development, and with digital models, we can test things that haven't been built yet so the product development lifecycle has changed significantly.

AI is changing much of the underlying technology. There are less people required to operate equipment. Chemicals, structures, optics, aerodynamics, astrophysics, trajectories, etc. can be developed using simulations and genetic algorithms. Systems become much more highly integrated and networked providing greatly enhanced capabilities.

One of the reasons that aerospace engineering is so difficult, is that it blends together all of the other engineering disciplines to function together with extreme levels of precision and accuracy in environments where many of the variables are constantly changing at high speed. AI is being applied to all of those underlying disciplines independently, and combines them together using thousands (if not millions) of equations and can then manipulate and optimize them for the desired performance.
