Why is it easier to get a program management role than a prooject management role? I am certified. I passed the certification with flying colors on the first try.  have yet to land a project management role and I know I would be a very good project manager. I have good communication skills, I am a servant leader, and I have many transferrable skills. Some roles want a seasoned project manager with many projects under their belts. But what about certified individuals with limited projects under their umbrella with great skills. Any advice appreciated.

The job world at times is quite dicey! But do not give up applying for the roles.... Keep building your skills

You might want to also include roles as a project analyst, coordinator or control officer as those are a common stepping stone into a PM role in many companies.

Also remember that most jobs are secured through a warm introduction rather than a recruiter or "cold" application so leverage your network to help as much as possible.

Good luck!

A PMP or any other credential can help you get ahead of the crowd but they won’t secure a job for you because employers are more interested in your expertise and what you can actually do rather than what you just know. If you have limited PM experience, then I’d agree with Kiron, maybe look for a Project Coordinator role as it’s a good starting position to get your feet wet because you will get first hand experience and exposure to various aspects of project management.

As for program management roles, I do beg to differ as I do find that it’s much harder to get PgM role than a PM role due to the complexity of programs so employers look for both Project and Program management experience.
