Hello fellow Community!
Have you always or ever wanted to present ON-SITE for a global audience of project professionals? Well, now’s your chance! The Call for Presentations for educational sessions at Global Summit 2024 in Los Angeles, 18-21 September, is now OPEN! Visit: https://na.eventscloud.com/eSites/777395/Homepage
What’s Global Summit? It’s PMI’s largest, in-person, signature event of the year. It brings together the leaders and project professionals committed to making ideas reality.
With roughly 100 educational sessions, three general sessions and an amazing Exhibit Hall, it’s an incredible event to learn, network and grow your community.
This is your chance to ask questions about submitting, sharing tips and tricks, or just comment about some great presentations you’ve seen at previous events (PMI or other):
--Are you someone considering submitting a proposal and have questions? Drop your questions below, and I’ll do my best to answer. (With the caveat that we expect to get 4x the number of submissions than we have spots, so my advice doesn’t guarantee acceptance into the program) --Were YOU a previous speaker at an in person event and have advice to aspiring presenters? Share your tips and tricks in the reply....
OR…
--Has anyone attended a sensational presentation you will never forget during previous conferences?? I’d love to hear about it!
Are you getting excited for LA? We sure hope so! Let's get the conversation going and flowing as we journey from "Submission to Summit"!

Melissa, I might be submitting a proposal to speak at the summit but want to make sure I can accomodate this (preprataion for the presentation) within my schedule before I decide to submit. However, either way, I hope I can make it this time to the summit.
Are you having expert discusson panels this year? If so, I'd love to participate in one of those panels.
On a separate note, I've always wanted to attend the summit but never had the chance to due to cost constrains as our organization won't cover any cost so they will have to come out of pocket but given that this time its closer to Vancouver, I might make it if total cost is reasonable.

Hi Rami! Hope you decide to submit something.
What sort of panels are you thinking of? Nearly all of the panels we have come from our submission process, but do you have something else in mind?

Melissa -
I'm guessing Rami is referring to the Ask The Expert booths which the Community team had at the 2019 Global Summit (and possibly previous ones).

Melissa Raffel: Kiron is right, I am referring to the “Ask the Expert” booths which I truly believe can add lots of value to the Global Summit especially with all the changes PMI is undergoing and the new products that were launched.
It would be great to have an “Ask the Expert” panel, maybe 3 to 5 professionals from the most active community members, to answer any questions members have about this platform, the community or PMI credentials. I feel I can add much more value to those panels than to present about a specific topic. For example:
1) Over the years, I've earned all PMI credentials plus Micro-credentials and on top of that, I have more than 50 credentials from multiple other global organizations so would be able to answer questions members have about certifications, micro-credentials or other products.
2) Been a very active community member since 2015 so would be able to speak of the value of this platform, how it helps professionals, and other factors.
3) I am also a member of PMI Volunteer Advocacy Program and one of PMI's LinkedIn Group Moderators where there are more than 400,000 members.
4) Been a member of PMO Global Alliance since their start, and volunteered with them all the way to date. Now that they are part of PMI, I would also be able to speak about the value that PMOGA's acquisition will bring to members.
There is a lot I can speak about as a panelist and I truly believe professionals and PMI members would be interested to hear the expert opinion of fellow colleagues about their experience with all the above "From the community to the community".
Give it a thought and let me know what you think. If you end up deciding to incorporate the "Ask the Expert" booth into this years summit, then I will most probably participate.

Rami KaibniKiron Bondale thanks for the clarification. Yes, I totally remember those booths--in Philly in 2019 and Los Angeles in 2018 (maybe even before 2018?)
Let me give this some thought and get back to you--appreciate it!

So happy to heard that the team is considering those! My first conference is LA, I believe that I met there Kiron. After years of colaboration, it was nice to have a few minutes with him and talk about profesional development and challenges in our organization.

Thanks, Melissa Raffel for looking into this for Rami Kaibni and Kiron Bondale! Yes, I attended the LA and Philadelphia PMI Conferences during the "Ask the Experts" days. Good times!
In order to get the conversation stirring, I'm going to start the "tag" game. So, Mayte Mata-Sivera , would you be able to offer feedback, tips & tricks, for others who may have never attended a PMI event and/or submitted a proposal? See Melissa Raffel's original post.
Then - tag someone in your "Network" to chime in:-) Many thanks, my friend! Saving Changes...
I'm passionate about this topic and could easily conduct a full webinar offering tips for first-time conference attendees. I’ll try to write short. Or else the readers will fell sleep. I can come back to this discussion if there are more follow up questions.
What's a Global Summit? It's an incredible experience for both young professionals and seasoned project leaders. I've been to events in Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Las Vegas, and Atlanta. It's not just about learning face-to-face; it's also about networking. You get to ask questions, meet project managers from around the world, and share experiences.
For those who've never been to a conference before, trust me, just do it! It's worth the investment. You'll see returns in your professional growth and networking skills.
Here's a tip: Plan your agenda beforehand. With so many sessions to choose from, it's wise to have a backup plan in case your first choice is full. Yes, some sessions can get crowded and for safety reasons they will not allow people standing up at the end of the room, so don’t be frustrated, have your plan B and run to the next session or check if that session has an encore the next day.
Talking about networking, let's discuss the "Ask the Expert" sessions. I've had the pleasure of attending these, and they're fantastic. I'm happy to see team are considering bringing them back. It's a chance to meet online community leaders face-to-face and build valuable relationships.
Now, about submitting speaker proposals: Here's my story. I've spoken at different PMI local Chapters, at events like LIM San Diego (PMI Leadership Institute), I'm also at the PMI speaker hub...but I've never been selected for a global summit.
Yet, every year, I submit my information with the same level of excitement. Why? Because every time I attend the summit, I'm blown away by the agenda. It makes me grateful for all the speakers, whether they're seasoned pros or newbies, who were selected not just for their skills but for their originality, fluency, and relevance of their topics.
So, to all the readers out there, whether you're a pro speaker or just starting out, go for it! And take the submission process as a learning and improvement. Saving Changes...

Thanks Mayte Mata-Sivera - it was great to meet you as well in 2019!
It was my first Global Summit and I really enjoyed being part of the Ask the Experts team - while we didn't have a ton of drop-by visitors, the ones we had did have some really insightful questions for us.
Overall, Global Summit was a great chance to meet a lot of folks whom I had only networked with virtually up till that time. The main tracks and breakout sessions were very good as well, and given the launch of the PMI re-brand coinciding with the 50th anniversary it was a really special event.
I would definitely relish the opportunity to participate in another such session!

Somthing that surprised me was that I finally had the chance to chat with Thomas W, whom I've admired for years through our discussions and conversations in this forum. Despite his impressive credentials as a PMI fellow and PMI Board member, Thomas was incredibly approachable and kind. I can't recall if I met him at the LA or Philadelphia convention, as I was not "collecting" photos with people the first times that I joined.
Question for Thomas Walenta : What advice would you offer newcomers attending their first event in LA next year? Also, do you remember individuals you've met during global? (Tag them, I let's keep alive the game that Kimberly Whitby started.
