Why Change is Scary and Discomfort?

Navaid -

Poorly managed change, or change which is imposed on folks without their input and involvement is scary and uncomfortable. Change which is able to address "what's in it for me" is a lot less scary, especially if the team in which the change is being implemented is at a high level of psychological safety such that there is no fear of social stigma or negative repercussions for adapting to the change.

Navaid, change makes me anxious but at the same time it makes me excited (Its like having a sweet sour soup). Kiron nailed it - Change that come as a surprise without prior notice makes me very uncomfortable and takes more time for me to digest it - Just like some of the most recent changes PMI has implemented!

However, if a change is well-planned, and I was involved in providing input or at least notified about it well in advance, I do for the most part feel more exited than anxious!

Navaid,
Successful change requires both people and technical sides.
Change is defined as a transition from a current to a future state.
Current State: the condition at the time the change is initiated.
Future State: the condition at the time when the benefits have been realized.

Organizational change requires individual change. Change has only truly occured when individuals in the organization begin working in new ways: displaying new behaviors, using new tools, adhering to new processes, and adopting new values. Individual shifts in behavior are the cornerstone of change. Change has one constant, and that's people.

This Prosci On-Demand webinar, "Connect and Activate Your Change Roles," eloquently explains why change management is crucial to project success.

Thank you Maria ,Kiron & Rami.

All of you gave great input.

I believe that people feel insecure and don't want to leave their comfort zone.

“CHANGE” is difficult but inevitable. Need to change the mindset for CHANGE!!!

Lack of self-confidence to perform in a new changing environment is a challenge. On the other hand, management should conduct sessions to educate their employees about the benefits of change, providing them with confidence, training, and sessions, which will be beneficial for employees. Additionally, a proper change management plan should be prepared, encompassing all the points mentioned above, to ensure proper implementation.
