I am starting a project where my team will have to work with resources from another consulting firm for our joint client. In the project plan, should I include these other resources on the tasks we will perform jointly? I have started on this route creating zero cost resources on these tasks, but this distorts the total hours for the project from my groups point of view. If I don't include external resources, how do I track the joint effort?

Could you clarify your comment on the distortion of total hours? You are absolutely correct in including all necessary resources in your plan/schedule. I wonder if you are letting the effect of cost muddy up the understanding of the causal aspect of schedule and resources.

Do you need to track the time for the resources from the other consulting firm? Or is it enough to indicate which tasks they have to work on with your people. Adding time/cost to your plan for resources your not getting paid for (or tracking their time) can make reporting your progress for your part of the project unclear.
