I am 7 months into my PM role at a startup and I oversee about 30 projects. However, I find myself sometimes lost and frankly bored. To describe my role is that I oversee 3-4 people who are involved in the projects, I do not work with budgets, there is little to none urgency when getting a project done and I do not have a lot of direction or guidance. Just looking for some good advice if you were in my shoes. Thanks.

Do not fear making a mistake or facing failure. On the contrary, fear regret. Make a wise decision that you won't regret.

Dear Ryan,
You are embarking on a journey to practice the project management craft.
It is to feel unsupported and lost; below are some pointers to stay engaged and committed in your new role.
-- Get to know your team members: understand each team member’s strengths and weaknesses; this would help you to pick the right person for a particular task/role
-- Understand your project goals: grasp the parameters for a successful project with your delegation; this would help you set expectations and metrics to track progress and measure performance
-- Embrace empathy: be compassionate toward their team; this would support team dynamics and promote team development
-- Seek guidance and ask questions: do not hesitate to seek help and / or clarification; this would allow you to reach out to experienced colleagues or mentors for insights and guidance
-- Build good work habits: stay organized and efficient, prioritize tasks, and set deadlines; this would allow you to bring structure into workflow allocation and management reporting
-- Network with people: build relationships within your organization, collaborate, and learn from others; this would help you to gain valuable opportunities for growth and learning.
To conclude, project management is a dynamic field, and continuous learning is key.
As you gain more experience, you’ll become more comfortable in your role.
Stay curious, seek feedback, and adapt as needed.
Will you succeed? Only time can tell!
Best regards,
Ming
