Bheki -

Projects are uncertain endeavors. The more we can push back that uncertainty, the higher the confidence we and our stakeholders will gain in our ability to deliver the projects successfully.

One simple example is understanding the expectations of key stakeholders before we get started. That can help us understand how much resetting might be needed if those expectations are unrealistic.

Bheki,
the context of a project is of tremendous importance.
It determines the purpose and the success and the way by which purpose transforms into success.
It is the stakeholders, the organizations involved, and their governance, culture and power structures. And also the timing of the project, the experience of the team, competing projects etc.

Bheki, having background info about the project is crucial because amongst other things, it will definitely help you with Risk Management Planning!

In information systems or any other discipline, project management is about where you are, where you want to go, and the best way to get there.

Without adequate background information, you lack one or more of those fundamental considerations.

I guess the more background information we gather about the project, the more number of risks could be avoided/prevented/mitigated during the project journey. And much of this exercise should happen at the beginning of the project specially in cases of construction projects.

Let me know your thoughts on this.

Project managers and team members can better grasp the project's general aims and objectives by having background information. To ensure that everyone is working toward the same goals, make educated decisions, and synchronize efforts, clarity is crucial.
