WBS is an important part of the planning process since it provides a visual map of hierarchical decomposition of a project, based on its phases, or its deliverables.  ¿What is your preferred software to create a WBS, and why have you selected it?  ¿Do you use features to import or export information to other software?

Veronica,
I worked with several software tools available for creating Work Breakdown Structures (WBS)the first one Microsoft Project, however I also worked with Wrike, Trello, Monday.com, and Smartsheet.

From my point of view understanding the WBS helps ensure that you structure your project effectively, regardless of the tool you choose to use.

I use a simple spread sheet with a template created by PMI. Then I reflect the tasks created into the ASANA software. Yet, the excel sheet might be enough

It's good to take advantage of templates provided by PMI, and also control the tasks with a Software Platform like ASANA.

We use Excel. A large portion of our operations are non-project managers. This spreadsheet, paired with a Gantt chart has been enough so far to communicate the WBS.

Veronica, I used Microsoft Project in the past but quite honestly at the moment I use Excel. I find it much better this way just like Oraib and Michael!

I am on the same page with Rami. Excel is good enough.

I use Excel also. In integration roles, I am not documenting most of the work myself, but developing the breakdown structure so that it is a good compromise. We have found that when there are many business systems involved, how you organize the work makes a big difference in how well the data fits the software applications. Translating information from one data structure to another is costly and error prone. Excel is useful for comparing different approaches to how the information is organized and find at a minimum the "least bad" fit.

Veronica -

A WBS should be developed collaboratively and as such a virtual collaboration tool such as Miro or Mural (or a white board with sticky notes for in person) works best for harnessing the wisdom of the team.

Otherwise, I find that if the team members aren't writing the work package descriptions themselves there isn't the same level of ownership in the scope as if they do.

As a contribution, I would like to mention one more option, quite interesting, which is WBS Schedule Pro, which integrates with Microsoft Project.

Today I was really impressed when using generative AI like ChatGPT to create project artifacts like WBS. We are using it including the free of cost version. No matter that in my actual work place we have a version with a find tunning on it.
