Just wrapped up an amazing webinar on "Catastrophic Change Management" by Project Management Institute featuring Mark Zessin, PMP. It was my first foray into international project management networking, and let me tell you, it was an absolute thrill!

Here are some of the key takeaways that left a lasting impression on me:

1. Decision-Making Models: Mark's perspective on decision-making models provided valuable insights. Understanding the dynamics of decision-making is crucial for effective change management.

2. Catastrophic Project Change: As the project approaches its end, the emphasis on preparation and practice becomes paramount. Mark stressed that preparation is the antidote to the constraints of time. Being ready for any scenario, catastrophic or not, is the key to success.

3. Positive Mindset: One of the most powerful reminders from the session was the importance of maintaining a positive mindset. Seeing opportunities in challenging situations is a skill that can turn the tide in your favor.

4. Attack the Issue: Mark's advice to attack the issue rather than merely trying to resolve it resonated deeply. By addressing challenges head-on, we not only showcase our preparation but also demonstrate resilience.

5. Open Conversation with Stakeholders: The significance of initiating open conversations early with stakeholders cannot be overstated. Effective communication is the bedrock of successful change management.

A special shoutout to NIC JAIN for hosting this exceptional event. Your efforts in bringing together like-minded professionals for an enriching discussion are truly commendable.

I am thrilled to have connected with some amazing project managers during the networking session. Huge thanks to Violeta Saviechyna Mark Hundley Maike Fischer Patrick Lozon Ionit Iberkleid, PhD, PMP. Looking forward for meaningful networking!

In conclusion, a big thank you to Mark Zessin, PMP for the invaluable content and to PMI for organizing this enlightening webinar. Here's to embracing change with preparation, a positive mindset, and a proactive approach!

Looking forward to more insightful gatherings and connecting with fellow project management enthusiasts.

Cheers,
Vanitha Shanmugam, PMP

In my experiences within the design and construction world, what makes timely effective and efficient communication possible is the leadership model of those in the C-suite.
i.e., that all see clarity, routinely, between what is said, and the resulting behaviors.

Great and insightful summary, Vanitha. I would say maintaining a Positive and Agile Mindset is the most important point when it comes "Catastrophic Change Management". We did lean a lot during COVID and it revealed so many gaps in dealing with change management while now many organizations are working on closing those gaps.
