Planning to take PgMP and PfMP Exams at once within same week. What are your thoughts? Is this approach suggested to save time overall?

I'm planning my next PMI certifications for this year, and my goal is to make them as most efficient as feasible. Since I think that PgMP and PfMP have similar areas to study, I thought it would be convenient to prepare for both exams in the same period.
I'm thinking about planning.
Study Time for both: 2-4 hours/day, 6 days/week, during 8-12 weeks.
Take the PgMP Exam and the PfMP exam at once (within 1-2 weeks period) after studying both.

For those experienced PgMP and PfMP members, do you think this is a good idea and convenient?

I know I will sound controversial but let me say: Except if to get those certification will add value to you in terms of a cost-benefit analysis I think you have not spend efforts on getting those.

Well Marco, interesting approach, have not heard of anybody else doing this.



And I would question your assumptions that they are similar and that doing them together would save time.
A good practice is to focus and eat the elephant one bite at a time.

Marco, I do have both credentials and I do agree with Thomas. Both credentials are not really similar and I am not sure if doing both at the same time is a good idea. I would personally pace them.

On another note, I am not sure if you are aware, but the application process for both is very rigorous as well. It took me personally one week to do the application for each credential and it also goes through Panel Review.

Hello all, I'm interested in both certifications and have considered the same approach as Marco. Based on your feedback, I believe it's more secure to go step by step. My PgMP exam is already planned.

Hello, I've passed PgMP exam last year. Hope to get PfMP till end of this year. Preparing the exam, targeting mid summer. While studying i realize quite different perspectives. I think is more secure to go step by step unless there is a strong motive to do both at same time. In that case best of luck

Gents, one step at a time is the best way to go. There shouldn't be a rush when it comes to those things. Good Luck!

Marco, I heard about a guy who nailed both the PgMP and PfMP credentials in one fell swoop on the same day. The training institute had him come in for a talk, but it turned out he was mixing up 'Program' with 'Portfolio'. It's not about just passing the test; it's about understanding the materials. My two cents: take it slow and steady.
