Companies that hire out junior project managers to other companies?

Hi all, I'm searching for an associate/junior project manager role and I figured a good place to start would be at a company that hires out project managers to other companies. I'm at the very beginning of my career so I could probably get experience with many different projects and industries at once at a job like that.

Do any of you know specific companies that function like that in Chicago? I'm sure there are plenty based on around different industry groups - I'll take any to start with though I'm particularly interested in healthcare, social work, education, government, or other places that feel like I'm helping people. Or is there at least a specific name for that kind of company? Broadly searching "project manager companies Chicago" has been leading to some pretty vague results.

If you are at the beginning of your career, it is unlikely any consulting firm would want to take a chance on putting you at one of their clients. You'd have a much better likelihood of landing a role as a junior project manager or project analyst at a client firm - work there for a little while and then look to move into a consulting or boutique PM firm. Most such firms look for folks who have experience in not just one industry so you'd need to develop sufficient depth and breadth before you consider that.

The alternative is to join a consulting firm as a team member/individual contributor, work for a while in that capacity and then move into a PM role.

Hmmm I see - so it's unlikely a consulting firm would hire me even as a junior/assistant project manager unless I had prior experience as a junior/assistant project manager somewhere else first? And what's the difference between a consulting firm and client firm?

Correct - remember that when a consulting firm is billing a client, the client will expect they are getting experienced contractors.

What I meant by working for a client firm was working full-time as a junior PM or project analyst within a company (internally).
