Hi All
For Context:
I am a 28 year old who has been in an out of Site / Mid management roles for the last 4 years within the renewable energy industry.
Solely getting by with my own logic and what i constantly learn and pick up from senior Managers.

My ulitimate goal is to become a fully fledged project manager (a goal many new PMI members share) and I feel like the best route for myself would be to become a proficient Scheduler & planner due to the exposure this role grants to various industries and field's as well as it's proximity to experienced project managers.

I'll be making my first attempt at the CAPM certification within the coming weeks but would appreciate any insight and suggestions to what comes after.

I currently have the following courses & certifications on my radar for 2024/2025:
CAPM & CP
Prince 2
EVM - (PCA)
Scheduling blueprint course (PCA)
CST & CCT from AACE
Various courses on MSP, P6 & BI

Thanks in advance for your time.

I would caution that in large companies such as often found in energy production, a scheduler/planner is typically a technical administration role falling under business management. You are likely to develop great skills in using powerful scheduling tools but get minimal experience in the underlying technical issues that drive the schedule dependencies.

That is not to say that it is not a very important role. Quite the contrary, on many projects I work closely with a scheduling expert to help sort out and manage the critical paths. I however am responsible for knowing the logical dependencies between the technical teams, and the scheduler is responsible for how that information is managed in our scheduling systems. The advancement path is typically managing a labor pool of business administration specialists rather than directly managing projects themselves.
