Do you agree?
Workplace politics and a toxic environment occur when employees feel insecure. They might engage in behaviors such as gossiping, being sneaky, or acting unfriendly towards others. They may feel the need to compete with their coworkers to secure their job or gain recognition. Sometimes, insecure individuals refrain from sharing credit or acknowledging others' achievements. They might also become easily upset when receiving advice or feedback.
To minimize toxic environment, it's important to have a workplace where Every employee should feel supported and appreciated at workplace.

Navaid,
I personally wouldn’t view your setup as workplace politics, instead I would view it as a “psychologically unsafe” environment. Most likely induced through management that lacks structured leadership soft skills (e.g., emotional intelligence, conflict resolution, empathy, teamwork, interpersonal communications, etc.).
A toxic environment does not happen because employees feel insecure. A toxic environment is WHY employees might feel insecure. The root causes for the toxic environment are many, but a lot of the blame can be pointed at senior leadership for not modeling appropriate behaviors and/or tolerating poor behaviors.
Work place politics can lead to toxic work environment while toxic environment can can be caused by many other factors too. But it is incorrect to say insecurity feeling leads to both conditions. Workplace politics usually starts from senior leadership where they tend to practice biased approach, their inability to judge or evaluate performance of the subordinate logically instead fall for fake boasting, apple polishing etc. which nurtures the sickening attitude among certain group of people within the organization sometimes up to the top level of management. The recognition or rewards don't reach the rightful owner instead goes to the apple polishers, who like to gossip around, sneaky and create hatters among the team members for personal gains. This kind of situation is what usually lead to toxic work environment.
