I have been a mechanical design/consulting HVAC engineer for the past 9 years. Along with the design/consulting I've gained 4 years of project construction management. I do not have my EIT or PE (although I've attempted several times).

If I wanted to steer more towards the PM side of construction would a PMP or PMI-ACP be better suited for my career development? Thank you for your time.

A PMP would be a better fit than PMI-ACP but you might also consider coupling that with a suitable lean certification, especially one which is geared to the application of lean principles in the construction industry.

I agree with Kiron. Nowadays, PMP contains both Traditional and Agile approaches, and it will definitely provide a more holistic understanding when compared with PMI-ACP, which focuses mainly on agile methodologies.

Maybe can start with PMP, and then further explore Agile by taking PMI-ACP if you would like to delve deeper into it.

I was leaning towards the ACP, but may have to re-assess based on both of your remarks. Thank you for your time and thoughts. It is much appreciated!

Ryan, I do agree with my fellow colleagues. In your situation, PMP is a better path for you.

A PMP would be best for someone in construction over a PMI-ACP. But you May wish to also consider the new PMI-CP credential for construction professionals
