I am giving an introductory training for the graduates at my company on project management. I use Kickoff (TM) in the curriculum, because it provides a nice short introduction into both traditional as well as agile pm. I was asked by the students if there's a document which summarizes Kickoff. Well, I guess there isn't, but is anyone aware of a short document / presentation which summarizes the essence of traditional and agile project management? Saving Changes...

In case somebody is interested: I eventually took this text here https://www.atlassian.com/agile/project-ma...anagement-intro , I think it is a decent description of both approaches, and explains some of the key terms. Turned out to be 6 pages as a PDF. Thanks again for everybody's replies, much appreciated!

That link is giving me a 404 error so is it perhaps missing an element? Also, I'd be a little concerned about an overview by Atlassian as Jira is anything but a well adapted product for adaptive delivery and while it can be kludged into supporting Scrum, it is not a great tool for supporting a continuous flow (non-sprint) approach so it is possible their document is similarly biased towards iteration-based adaptive delivery.

Oh, the url added the comma afterwards and therefore became invalid. Here it is again https://www.atlassian.com/agile/project-ma...anagement-intro I don't think the article is biased, and - by the way - I have used Jira quite successfully for predictive projects. Not Jira out of the box, but with the "Structure" and the "Structure.Gantt" add-in. I have only used it to create Gantt charts, where it does a very decent job. There even seems to be a lot of functionality which I know from the times when I used MS Project, but I haven't used it.

Kiron, if you remove the "," from the link, it should work fine.
On the article itself, I found the summary quite good at a high level for capturing the essence of agile and non-agile project management.

Re: "Introduction to traditional and agile project management"
A project is defined as starting with a contract for its scope, schedule, and budget.
Software development has a completely different process.
Why is this important?
Because you can call a Camel a horse, but after all, if you actually see one, you know it is not a horse.
Cheers,
