AI is making inroads into project management in many ways, and one of them is generating project insights. My PM friend met me the other day and seemed worried. I knew him to be a voracious user/supporter/consumer of AI for his project and supporting senior leadership with relevant details. He had been confident in using the right data and also having the right controls to ensure the reports were accurate.

Just as he was about to consolidate the last quarter reports, he realized something seriously wrong with the insights. He was staring at a project nightmare! What could have gone wrong? Didn't AI alert him at the right time? How should he analyze this situation?

Deepa, difficult to know what has gone wrong before knowing more details but in general, you shouldn't rely on AI to alert you especially that AI is still in it's infancy. A PM should always verify the data themselves as if AI doesn't exist. If AI can help with something at the moment, its helping decision makers make more informed decision beased on data.

A lot depends on the quality of the AI model and what it was trained on. Otherwise we will realize the same risks as the folks who blindly follow GPS directions into lakes...

Re: "Would like to know your thoughts"
At least 60% of projects fail to meet their requirements in either one or more elements of scope, schedule or budget.
While tech may surface, the root-causes are the lack of education "How to play nice with others."
i.e., Knowledge and skill to collaborate, cooperate, communicate with people.
i.e., to first seek understanding . . .

So then, absent such knowledge, with AI now projects can simply fail sooner!
Cheers,
Bill
