Why isn't there a certification for Healthcare Projects like there is for IT and Construction?

Sometimes I wonder why the IT or construction industry has relevant PMI certification and micro-credential. Of course, I understand its complexity, financial involvement, and the potential impact of projects, which could range from significant to becoming mega projects. However, I also wonder why pharmacology related projects, which can be quite complex with a substantial amount of time and money involved, sometimes could be even very crucial as they deal with human health, often involving matters of life and death, why hasn't there been a specialized certification tailored for healthcare-related projects?

I'd look to healthcare specific associations (e.g. HIMSS) for those. There is no PMI "IT" certification - the PMI-ACP and DA certifications might have their origins in technology-related projects but the concepts are applicable to all types of adaptive projects. Construction is PMI's first foray into a domain-specific certification and I'd expect they may add others over time if the PMI-CP is a success.

Hi Kiron Bondale , I’m not saying that there is a PMI ‘IT’ certificate, maybe the words that I used is a bit misleading (apologize), but it is commonly well-known that PMI-ACP is well recognized in the IT industry, as well as there is Citizen Development micro-credentials, which is quite related to IT as well. Yet, in reality, there is no healthcare project related specialize certification, despite there being quite a lot of projects in the healthcare industry. On the other hand, I also understand that project management knowledge is applicable across domains as well, such as PMP, PMI-ACP, etc... Anyway, thanks for sharing your view. Appreciate it.

Danny, in principle, I do agree with Kiron. PMI-ACP and citizen development are not really IT related. I do not come from an IT background and PMI-ACP helped me enhance my knowledge in agility in general and CD helped me realize how an non-IT person can actually do their own app.

On the other hand, having industry specific credentials for different industries might not make sense for so many reasons but you never know, PMI might come up with more if PMI-CP proved to be a success!

Rami Kaibni , definitely PMI-ACP is IT-related as many of the associated approaches originate from IT, although this knowledge can be applied to any non-IT project. Yet, it doesn't change the fact that it originates from IT, making it IT-related. Citizen Development surrounds low-code/no-code development, which is also IT-related, even though it isn't necessary to have any IT background to master it. Anyway, whether it's IT-related or not isn't really the main point. I just wonder if PMI-CP is so specific; I think healthcare deserves the same weight as it involves matters of life and death.

There is also certification for IT such as ITIL (for IT Service Management, which might include IT project), or PRINCE2 (which is another certification that is quite related with IT), there is certification for Construction such as PMI-CP, yet it seems like there is no specialize certificate for Healthcare Project.

Thanks for sharing your view. Appreciate it.

Finally, I found a healthcare-related project management credential: ACRP-PM® (ACRP Project Manager), a credential that formally recognizes clinical research professionals with specialized knowledge in project management.
