Failed in first attempt- Need to stand and fight back- Please help

Hi All,
As the topic suggests, I failed my first attempt.
Process- NI, People- BT, Business Environment- NI.
The exam was on 11-April-2024 (last week) in Dubai.
I took the prep course with AR TIA's PMP exam prep in Udemy. Also attended practice questions in YT.
The issue that i faced is mainly Time management. In the 1st set of 60 questions, i flagged almost 20 questions for review. So once this 60 questions was completed, I consumed additional time in reviewing those 20 qns. This resulted in a shortage of time and even though I rushed as fast as possible but I couldn't complete the exam and ultimately ran out of time. By the time the clock ended, i was at question number 165.
I know all the 49-processes and all the EVM formulas. First thing i did is write all the processes and th EVM formulas. But there was no questions that has EVM calculations. Also the terms used in the questions were extremely in-direct (I know PMP exams don't use direct terms) and lengthy.
I think i will need to do intensive practice on more and more mock tests.
As mentioned in the topic I don't intend to give-up. I need to stand-up and fight back this failure.
Can anyone please recommend some good practice for me? Saving Changes...

Karan, don't be discouraged and take it as a learning experience. Since you scored low on all domains, here is what I suggest you do (This is my personal opinion):
1) Read through the Exam Content Outline (ECO), PMBOK 6th Edition (Including the Agile Extension as lots of questions are Agile / Hybrid based) and then read the PMBOK 7th edition. I believe both editions are relevant to the exam.
2) Go through Rita Mulchay’s Exam Prep book, I think its 11th edition now, but double check. This is one of the best resources for exam preparation.
3) After you are done, purchase the Simulator Package through PM Prep Cast and practice as much as you can. This is a great simulator and resource for questions that mimic the real exam and will help you in time management as well as you practice.
Hope this helps - Let me know if you have further questions - Good Luck!

Hi Rami,
Thanks a lot for your reply.
I’ve also heard people mentioning about PMI Study-hall as a recommendation for exam prep. What is your view on this?

I agree with Rami's recommendations: personally, I also used the PrepCast simulator during my PMP preparation, and it's well-designed and of great help in tracking my progress and performance. Wish you the best of luck in your next attempt, Karan!

Karan, while PMI Study Hall is good, I still personally prefer PM PreCast over SH. The way it is structured by Knowledge Area, and Domain helps you with learning as you practice.

There are many mock tests available on Udemy. The more you work on them, the better you will understand about it. It's most important to focus on understanding those areas where you didn't score well. Understand why those choices were wrong answers and what the correct answers are. There must be a reason behind each selection. Keep up the fighting spirit! Saving Changes...

Hi Karan:
first of all, you are doing awesome. do not get discouraged with this, i am sure the previous attempt will prepare you for awesome next one.
IMHO, Examination needs a specific mindset and you shall be use to it.
My fellow colleagues from PM Community already gave you great tips.
In addition to resource shared, i will suggest perform time boxed mockup as much as possible. keep 30% time buffer with you.
even if you know everything, time pressure makes it hard to grip.
i am happy to support and reflect in person, if required.
Hi Karan! I'm sorry you did not pass on your first attempt, but don't be discouraged! You will get it next time since you already know what you need to work on.
Some pointers based on your experience and mine:
1. Read Agile Practice Guide for sure!
2. Edzest Education Services offer great and free YouTube videos on mock exams which aren't lengthy and gives great explanations of each question and right/wrong answers.
3. For time management, check out Andew Ramdayal!
4. When they say PM is a mindset, it really is! I suggest reviewing mindset before your exam.
5. Taking time to write down formulas is a great idea, but it will take time to do that. If you can rememebr them, I suggest to refer to them only when asked a question that requires formulation.
6. Dont second guess yourself! Trust your instinct with every question, and when in doubt chose the best possible answer from the PM perspective.
Hope this is helpful! Good luck! Saving Changes...
