Veronica, EVM parameters are definitely useful indicator for the project's health but they are not enough on their own as they do not give any indication whether you are delivering value or not. You ca be ahead of schedule and within budget and yet, not delivery what is supposed to be delivered so besides EVM, you should measure value using other metrics which are different from one project to another and both combined can provide a more accurate view of the project's status.
I never used the S-Curve in MS Project. I do have an excel file with EVM formulas defined with the curve that I use on my projects. Saving Changes...
