This is a frequently discussed topic in this forum but in short - no.
While purely administrative activities and roles might be impacted such as project administrators/controllers, so long as projects are delivered using talented humans, they will want humans leading them, not machines.

Devi,
yes, AI will gradually replace some current PM skills, such as writing minutes or reports, using Excel, or finding relevant information. Other skills will prevail, and again, others will be added.
Thank you everyone. When AI replace some of the skills, I would like to understand what kind of future skill sets we could learn/ improve to stay competitive. Saving Changes...

Devi, this is the question of the century that I’ve seen many wondering about and I was asked about it myself. I strongly believe that the role of the Project Manager will never become obsolete, and on the contrary, PMs will become more efficient with the integration of AI, because it will help PMs focus more on value added tasks. That said, I agree with Kiron that purely administrative activities and roles might be impacted.
I decided to seek AI’s (ChatGBT) opinion on this matter as well and this is what I got:
“AI is changing the landscape of project management by automating certain tasks, offering insights from data analysis, and streamlining processes. However, it's unlikely to make the role obsolete. Project managers bring human skills like leadership, communication, and problem-solving that AI can't fully replicate. AI can assist in tasks like scheduling, risk assessment, or resource allocation, but it can't entirely replace the need for human oversight, adaptability, and the ability to navigate complex human interactions within a project. The role might evolve, but the need for skilled project managers is likely to persist.”
Very solid answer that I totally agree with. The key is: Interpersonal Skills! Saving Changes...

Project/Program/Portfolio management is close to disappear, at least as original defined. PMI is aware on that, in my opinion, Take a closer look to both trainings delivered for free by the PMI. Saving Changes...
