No offence to all of the men linking up to be in  my network but I see a dearth of female faces . Is there a Community for women in PMI ? Statistically we are still the minority and face some unique challenges in male dominated environments. If you'd like to connect and have a conversation about this please do !

Claire, no offense taken and while I respect your point of view, not sure I totally agree with it. This community is for everyone and we have lots of great female colleagues in this community. Take for example the PMI community moderators, and managers, they are all females:

Heather McLarnon
Kimberly Whitby
Laura Schofield
Jenny Morse
Laura Coscarelli

There are lots of other fellow female PMs in this community who are community contirbutors nd champions but I can't tag them as we are limited to 5 tags per comment.

Hi Claire,

Welcome to the community!

When a new user registers their account in the community, quite a few community members quickly “make a connection” as we/they enjoy racking up their connection counts and watching their position move up on the “Headliners” page.
https://www.projectmanagement.com/profile/top25.cfm

When I looked at your connections, 10 of the 11 users fit that profile.

If you haven’t already, be sure to visit the “Project Management Central” discussion board and enjoy engaging with the community. It’s about a 50/50 mix on male/female engagement.

George, I don't think your comment is totally fair about all of us making connections to rack up the connections count and watch the position move on the headliners page. Personally, I make connections for a meaningful purpose. Some members reach out to me to connect, others I do reach out to them because we should lead by example and encourage others. Throughout my 10 years of continuous heavy involvement with this community, I noticed that many members feel encouraged when community members like us reach out to them to connect and it will motivate them to become active members and I know this because so many do send me private messages saying so. Just wanted to clarify this point because I am not into the numbers game nor do I need more feathers on my hat.

Rami,

I did not mean to represent a negative connotation, as you demonstrate in your actions and words the qualities of one who cares about this community and this profession!

I was trying to bring some context to a new community member and point her to an environment where she could see a “melting pot” of community users engaging.

And note, I did say “we,” as I’m also on that board -;)

My apologies,

George

George, thanks for the clarification, much appreciated. I was just trying to add more context to everyone because I've heard this comment so many times (Our network is huge because it's all about numbers) and wanted to emphasize that there is more to connecting that numbers and ranks: I always say Connect for a Purpose and I know you do that. I have lots of respect for you as an esteemed colleague and professional and I learned a lot of things over the years from your posts and comments :-)

Hi Claire,

Thank you for comment. We currently have our Women in Project Management Project Team that was formed last year and currently contributes to ProjectManagement.com through webinars. You will find the group producing additional webinars later this year. Unfortunately the team is not currently accepting applications for new members, but please be on the lookout for future opportunities with this particular group and more. You can find them in our Volunteer Engagement Platform: https://www.pmi.org/leadership-central/volunteer-engagement-platform

Claire Farmer - I really appreciate you raising your hand to elevate the need to connect with other women in project management.

I want to acknowledge that our online community platform does not support "groups" right now in a way that makes it easy for folks, whether by geographic region, gender, or industry-role, to find each other and have conversations with community members in those specific segments in private or hybrid (partially open/closed) online spaces.

As we upgrade our technology over the next 12 months, the ability to create groups is on our short-list of high-need use cases to support. We are dedicated to making the networking, sharing, and collaborative process so much easier.

In the meantime, I'm going to send you a quick message to learn more about how we can better serve women like you in our online community; I'd really love to draw on your reflections as we map out our plans to launch affinity-based online community groups over the next 12 months.

While I'm not a woman, I just want to voice out that it's great there is a DEI initiative within the PMI community. As Rami mentioned, most of the PMI team members that I have personally encountered so far here are female, and they are very nice and helpful. The PMI Leadership Team is also composed of people from various backgrounds. Together, let's make it a great community for everyone, regardless of the background we come from. Project management is borderless.

Absolutely no offense taken! It's unfortunate but true that there's often a lack of female representation in some professional networks. However, I'm grateful you've brought this up because it's a discussion worth having.

Maybe in your network or professional enviroment you are experience this, however here, in the global community there are amazing women and within the PMI profession. It's inspiring to see progress being made, as example, last year's PMI Global Conference. The fact that there were lines in the women's bathroom during breaks, whereas just five years ago it was the opposite, speaks volumes about the positive changes happening.

I'm more than happy to connect and chat about this, however, this is one of the most diverse profesional community that you will find around.
