Why is MS project online so different than desktop?

The online 365 version is set up like Azure and Teams. It has views in Grid and board. Each task pop up is user friendly. And I LOVE that you can "control + mouse wheel" to zoom in! ...  The desktop version is the same garbage but slightly updated from the 2005 desktop version... What brings me here is that i just want to edit the Bold, underline, color, font, etc in the online version... Or can i take

Jerry -

It's funny how perspectives differ - I like the desktop app's user experience but that's because I have used every version of it since the mid-90s and it has remained fairly consistent whereas the online version was a radical departure and I wasn't fond of the difference.

My expectation is that at some not too distant point, MS will drop the desktop version and just standardize on the online version's UI. It isn't worth their dev team efforts to re-skin the legacy app...

If you look at it, manure isn't such a bad word. You got the "newer" and the "ma" in front of it. Manure.
