Amidst our busy professional lives, many may overlook that today is the International Day of Families. If you're caught up in a whirlwind of tasks, remember to pause. Today isn't just another day; it's a reminder to cherish our families, the foundation of our existence.
As a project manager working full-time, how can one best attain Work-Life Balance? Saving Changes...
Fitting that the International Day of Families is sandwiched between Mother's Day and Father's Day!
Rather than balance, work life integration is likely a more achievable objective. That implies a healthy give and take between priorities and pressures from both fronts and makes it less of a work vs life conflict.
As leaders, not only do we need to work a sustainable pace for ourselves but we need to model such behaviors to help those we lead to do the same.

Dear Kiron
All your comments are great! Here's a breakdown of why:
* Observation about International Day of Families: It's a clever observation that the International Day of Families falls between Mother's Day and Father's Day. This highlights the importance of families as a whole, beyond just parents.
* Work-life balance vs. integration: You're right, work-life integration is a more realistic approach than aiming for perfect balance. It acknowledges the interconnectedness of work and personal life.
* Leaders modeling sustainable work practices: This is a valuable point for leaders. By setting a good example and prioritizing well-being, they can encourage their teams to do the same.
Planning! Work-Life balance can be achieved through planning. This is what a project manager should be good at!

Dear Yousefi
You're absolutely right. Project managers are skilled at planning and prioritizing, which are essential for achieving work-life balance. By effectively managing their time and setting boundaries, they can create a schedule that accommodates both professional and personal commitments.

Golam, I didn’t know there is an international family day so thanks for bringing this up. In Vancouver, our family day is in February and it’s an official holiday!

Dear Rami , The 15th of May is designated as the International Day of Families by the United Nations. It's not a public holiday in most countries, but it serves as a global awareness day to recognize the significance of families and the issues they face.
but Family Day originated in Alberta, Canada, in 1990. The Lieutenant Governor, Helen Hunley, proclaimed the Family Day Act, establishing the third Monday of February as a provincial holiday dedicated to families. The aim was to promote the importance of family life and provide a much-needed break between New Year's Day and Easter.
The concept resonated with other provinces, and over the years, several others adopted Family Day as a statutory holiday. Today, it's celebrated in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, British Columbia, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island.
