Hi PMI Community! My name is Jhenmar Carino, and I work on PMI’s GenAI tool, Infinity. We’re looking to enhance PMI Infinity by introducing new features for uploading and analyzing documents, and we need your input. To best serve project professionals, we’d like to understand how you’re currently using GenAI.

Please share with us:
- What types of documents do you most frequently upload to GenAI tools?
- Do you use GenAI for document generation? For document analysis? For summarization?
- How are you utilizing GenAI tools for assistance with project documentation?

I’m looking forward to seeing your responses; thanks for providing your insights and helping to shape the future of PMI Infinity!

- What types of documents do you most frequently upload to GenAI tools?

I do not upload documents to GenAI. I have had the most success with copying document text in to the chat window as part of a prompt. When I have attempted to directly reference documents, I find the tool struggles to process the entire document.

- Do you use GenAI for document generation? For document analysis? For summarization?

I have used MS Copilot for MS365 with some degree of success. I use MC Copilot for MS365 to write business cases, project charters, and project management plans. My projects are not large enough to require many other project documents or specific management plans. I have used Copilot for document generation, analysis, and summarization. I have found generation the most useful of the three functions.

One particular nicety would be if I could standardize or templatize the documents prepared by GenAI. I have built out this process in my prompts, but it would be useful if I could control the process through templates. Perhaps from a document/response template widget.

- How are you utilizing GenAI tools for assistance with project documentation?

I use GenAI for increased speed in document generation and getting a head start on idea generation. I am able to provide my loose and/or short hand notes and prompt the tool to review and revise my notes to form a coherent business case, etc.

I have used transcription services and find them to be good, but not perfectly reliable. I use a combination of personal notes and GenAI to ensure accurate meeting notes and take aways.

I use AI to analyze project documents and critique them to find gaps, offer recommendations before i tailor to context. I also use AI to generate generic templates which I then adapt for use. I use AI to visualize project data.

I believe PMI's Infinity pilot was a good pilot project, but now we need an expanded solution that we can rely on at the business's operational level. We should probably move into a solution that offers a larger context and surely a better and smoother interface.
Hi Hakam - Would appreciate understanding your thoughts further. What does a "larger context" specifically mean to you? What type of information or insight is critical at the operational level?

Hello Idris,
The current system is limited to the prompt scope, which doesn't provide a holistic response. An ideal solution should consider the project as a whole, not just the immediate prompt. This bigger-picture understanding is essential for delivering valuable insights.
The insights vary based on the industry, level of criticality, and the user (Project manager vs. Project accountant vs. project communication vs. PMO director, etc.).
