Felicia, the likelihood of recommending a new PM for my company depends on so many factors like needs, experience requirements, candidate’s personality and much more so its not something we can put on a scale because its not one-size-fits-all answer!

I pose the question because I am a newly certified PM with over 5 years of experience. During my search for a PM role I am finding it quite difficult to land a position. So, I ask the question to get an idea of what companies are looking for when they hire a newly certified PM, like me.

While the PMP certification is impressive, recruiters often prioritize relevant project management experience. Make sure your resume prominently showcases your 5 years of experience, highlighting quantifiable achievements using the PMP framework where applicable.

Stay positive and persistent in your job search. The PMP certification validates your knowledge, but strong communication and interpersonal skills are equally important. The combination of your experience, PMP certification, and focused job search efforts will eventually lead to success. Do not give up.

Your point is well taken—while the PMP certification is a valuable credential, recruiters do tend to prioritize hands-on project management experience. It's crucial to highlight your 5 years of experience on your resume, emphasizing specific achievements that align with the PMP framework. Stay optimistic and persistent; the right combination of experience, certification, and soft skills will undoubtedly lead to success in your job search. Don't give up!
