I am a project control manager ,project manager having exp. of around 22 years in oil and gas industry. Recently I came to know about doing a certificate course in piping engineering from a reputed Institute ,India. Piping is back bone of any oil and gas industry. Knowledge gain in piping gives a good command (Since academically you will have certificate) .But how does it looks ? Is it a funny idea ? I request people to give some comments /opinion on this

I don't think it is a bad idea to obtain a credential in your industry (i.e. in something that is not project management). When I first started working in insurance I took some insurance exams, just so the actuaries would take me seriously and so I knew what they were talking about. It gave me something extra on my CV and more confidence working in the industry.

Agree with Liz that it is always good to have a technical certification apart from the general PM certification; both serve different purposes. In fact, in some industries, it is even a mandatory to have a technical certification before you are allowed to carry out the job.
