Passed my CaPM - PDUs Question

Hello!

I read that we have to maintain x amount of PDU to renew our license.

I wanted to know more about it - I work as a Sr. Project Manager and I would love to use my project hours to track against it.

Is the 2-hour work for PDU going to be limited?

Yes, the 2 hours for working as a professional in the PM field is the maximum you can claim against the 15 PDUs required to recertify your CAPM designation. As there are 9 PDUs (minimum) required from education, you mind find it easiest to get 13 PDUs from education (a combination of courses, self-learning via reading, watching webinars, etc.) and 2 PDUs for working in the field.

I'd also assume that you will be going for your PMP as soon as you are eligible to do so, which means that at worst you are looking at a single recertification of your CAPM designation.

Hi Kiron,

Thanks for your answer.

Yes, I am taking my PMP next month.

Will you be able to explain a "single recertification"?"

Do you think it would be beneficial to get my PMP while the knowledge from CAPM is fresh?

I believe both have different PDU criteria but it is something that I can manage by creating a study plan to cater to the application body of PDU's.

Lester, if you just passed your CAPM and planning to do your PMP next month then I’m curious as to why you didn’t go for the PMP directly given that the study material is technically the same.

PDUs can apply to multiple credentials at once so majority of PMI credentials have the same renewal and PDUs criteria and a PDU can apply to multiple credentials at once.

I learned from the link that the giving back PDU is Optional.

Does that mean I can register my 2 hours of work and allocate the remaining PDU on learnings? which states a minimum of 9?

Lester, the answer to your question is yes. Giving back PFUs are optional and capped to certain number of PDUs but Educational PDUs are not capped to a max but they have a min amount required. I suggest you read the CCRS handbook.

Rami - Thanks for your response!

Both of your questions were helpful and set my direction for the PDU!

To answer your question, I wanted to get a deeper understanding of the project management framework. I’m not sure if this answers your question, but prior to getting my certification, I already had non-professional Google PMP Credentials.

I think the primary influence for getting the CAPM is to understand all the proper procedures and apply these techniques and methodologies in the real world.

Assuming you meet the minimal experience & education requirements for the PMP credential, I would certainly recommend pursuing that rather than recertifying your CAPM when the time comes.
